This German course perfectly complements the A2/B1>B1 course, but you can also take the course if you can already speak German fairly easily. Would you like to improve your knowledge of German for study, work or to understand your in-laws better? With this German course from the University of Groningen Language Centre, you will be challenged to learn to speak even better German!
Who is this course for?
This course is for participants at an intermediate level of German at CEFR level B1. During the course, we work towards level B1/B2. The course is taught in German as much as possible, with explanations provided in English or Dutch when necessary. It is therefore important that you have a good command of English in order to participate in the course.

What will you learn in this course?
The course consists of 12 lessons. A lesson lasts 2 hours in an on-site course and 1.5 hours in an online course. During the course, you will learn, among other things:
- Past tenses
- Modal verbs in all past tenses
- Verbs with prepositional objects
- Indefinite pronouns
How many hours of independent study are required?
You should expect to spend a total of 30 hours on independent study in order to stay on track with the course. Each week, you are expected to go through the lesson material, learn and practise the vocabulary, complete the grammar exercises and pay sufficient attention to your listening and reading skills.
What will you be able to do after the course?
- Give recommendations
- Talk about cities, buildings and your dream destination
- Make polite requests, give advice and constructive criticism
- Participate in discussions on the topics covered
After successfully completing this course, you will be ready for the Speak Up! German intermediate course which fully focuses on speaking.
