At the Language Centre, you will learn Dutch at a fast pace with the help of teaching methods we developed ourselves. Our language courses focus on speaking and understanding the Dutch language. This way, you will quickly start to feel more or less at home with the language, and you naturally expand your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.
This course is designed for highly educated newcomers with a cultural background that differs significantly from Dutch culture. You have a beginner level of Dutch at CEFR level A1. During the course, we work towards level A2. The course is taught in Dutch as much as possible, with explanations provided in English when necessary. It is therefore important that you have a good command of English in order to participate in the course.
Intake interview
Would you like to or do you have to complete the Dutch integration process and have you not done a Language Centre course before? Then, you will first have to do an intake interview with us before you can register for a course. Find out here which intake procedure applies to you.
The course consists of 36 lessons of three hours each, during which the following topics will be covered:
You will also learn a lot about Dutch culture during the course, which will help you prepare for the Knowledge of Dutch Society exam. In addition, you will have a number of individual mentor meetings with your teacher during the course. Here, you discuss your progress, what is going well and what problems you encounter in learning the language. In this way, the teacher will personally guide you towards completing the course with the best possible result.
Self-study is an important part of this course. In order to properly keep up with the course, you will have to take into account a total of three to four hours of self-study for this course. Self-study ensures a solid preparation for the upcoming lesson and makes you repeat what you have learned in previous lessons. Self-study includes, for example, learning words via an app, watching explanatory videos on grammar, and completing writing and speaking assignments from the book and the accompanying website. You will submit some of these assignments, via the online learning environment, to your teacher for review.
A lot of self-study is carried out in the online learning environment, for which you need a laptop or PC. A tablet is not suitable for this. It is your own responsibility that you have a laptop or PC. It is also important that you have the digital skills to use it.
At the end of the course, the teacher assesses whether you are at level A2 for all four skills: reading, speaking, writing, and listening, and whether you will be eligible for a follow-up course at the Language Centre. The teacher will decide on this based on your results, intermediate assignments, your results of the reading test and listening test you take at the end of the course, and on your performance during lessons. Your ability to speak Dutch is especially decisive in this regard. After successfully completing this course, you will be ready for the Dutch for civic integration candidates A2>A2/B1 follow-up course.
The course book is included in the course fee. You will receive the book before or during your first lesson from the Language Centre.
