Are you a native speaker of German and do you want to learn Dutch? In this language course offered by the Language Centre of the University of Groningen, we focus on the specific challenges for German speakers at this level. This way, you will discover the differences and similarities between German and Dutch. During the language course, you will learn how to speak Dutch in various situations, such as at the market, in the cafeteria at work or school, in a café, or at a restaurant. You will be speaking Dutch from the very first lesson!

At the Language Centre, you will learn Dutch at a fast pace using teaching methods we developed ourselves. Our language courses focus on speaking and understanding the Dutch language. This way, you will quickly start to feel more or less at home with the language, and you will naturally expand your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.

Who is this course for?

This course is intended for native speakers of German who do not speak Dutch yet. During the course, we will work towards CEFR level A2. The course is taught as much as possible in Dutch, with explanations in English when necessary. It is therefore important that you have a good command of English to participate in the course.

The course is openly accessible to everyone: UG students, UG staff, and external parties! Full-time international students, PhD students, and postdocs of the University of Groningen can take these Dutch courses at the Language Centre at the expense of the Board of the University of Groningen. Read all about these regulations and see if it applies to you here
