Would you like to prepare for a study trip or internship in one of the German-speaking countries? Do you work with German-speaking colleagues or customers? Or perhaps you are interested in current affairs, history, and culture in German-speaking countries? This German course at the University of Groningen Language Centre will challenge you to speak German at a higher level!
Who is this course for?
This course is for participants with an intermediate level of German, between CEFR levels B1 and B2. This German course perfectly complements the B1>B1/B2 course, but you can also take the course if you can already speak German fairly easily. During the course, we will work towards level B2, the level of an independent language user. The course is taught entirely in German.

What will you learn in this course?
The course consists of 12 lessons. Each lesson lasts 2 hours in an on-site course and 1.5 hours in an online course. The focus is on speaking, but we also pay attention to expanding your vocabulary and practising more complex grammatical constructions. During the course, you will:
- discuss current topics,
- participate in role-playing exercises,
- practise vocabulary and expressions related to study and work,
- talk about the present, past, and future, and practise using verb tenses,
- have the opportunity to contribute your own ideas and learning preferences.
How many hours of independent study are required?
To get the most out of the course, you should expect to spend around three hours per week on self-study. You will follow current events in German-speaking countries via newspaper websites, radio, and television, and report on them in the group. You will read texts and revise vocabulary and grammar. Those who wish to practise their writing skills can choose from a number of writing assignments.
