During the course, special attention is given to improving spontaneous speaking, listening comprehension, and the ability to write more nuanced texts. By the end of the course, you will feel more confident navigating everyday and professional situations in Italian and expressing yourself with greater precision, fluency and naturalness.
This is where you continue your journey and bring your Italian to life. Buon viaggio!
Who is this course for?
This course is intended for learners with an intermediate B1 CEFR level of Italian. The course is taught in Italian as much as possible, with explanations provided in English only when necessary. It is therefore important that you have a good command of both Italian and English in order to participate fully in the course.
If you are unsure whether this level is right for you, you can find out by taking our online placement test! Alternatively, you can make an appointment for an online consultation with the teacher for personalised advice.
What will you learn in this course?
The course comprises six two-hour sessions, during which you will develop your language skills through the following:
- A revision and consolidation of the present and past subjunctive and conditional, as well as advanced grammar structures such as pronominal particles (ci and ne), periodi ipotetici (conditional clauses), and reported speech
- Expansion of your vocabulary on topics such as contemporary society, culture, travel, work, education, and everyday life in Italy
- Development of your understanding and use of Italian idiomatic expressions, proverbs, and natural conversational language
- Strategies for improving your speaking and listening skills through discussions, debates, articles, and interactive activities such as talk shows.
How many hours of independent study are required?
To keep up with the course, you should expect to spend approximately 18 hours on self-study in total. Self-study activities may include writing assignments in which you will apply the vocabulary and grammar covered during the course. These assignments will also serve as a basis for class discussions on a variety of topics to help you further enhance your oral fluency.
Please keep in mind that language learning is a continuous process, and reaching the B2 level is a significant achievement. To further develop your skills, we recommended continuing to practise outside of the classroom through conversations with native speakers whenever possible, reading Italian texts, watching Italian films or TV programmes, and engaging in other immersive activities.
What will you be able to do after the course?
- You will be able to participate confidently in conversations with native speakers on a wide range of familiar and unfamiliar topics, following discussions at a natural pace.
- You will be able to express and justify opinions, present arguments, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different viewpoints with greater nuance.
- You will be able to understand longer and more complex written and spoken texts, including newspaper articles, podcasts, interviews, films, and TV programmes.
- You will be able to write clear and well-structured texts such as formal emails, reports, reviews, and opinion pieces.
