In this follow-up course Korean for beginners of the University of Groningen Language Centre, your command of the Korean language will continue to increase. You will be able to hold an informal conversation more easily, and your knowledge of vocabulary and grammar will be expanded. During the lessons, you will practise various conversational situations enabling you  to express yourself more confidently in Korean.
Who is this course for?

This course is for beginners of Korean with CEFR level A1. During the course, we work towards level A1/A2. The course is taught in Korean as much as possible, with explanations provided in English when necessary. The teaching material is in English. It is therefore important that you have a good command of English in order to participate in the course.

What will you learn in this course?

The course consists of 12 lessons of two contact hours, during which the following topics will be covered:

  • Korean honorifics
  • Nominalization (turning a verb into a noun)
  • Idiomatic expressions
  • Two types of irregular verbs and adjectives ending with ‘?’ and ‘?’
How many hours of independent study are required?

You should expect to spend a total of 30 hours on independent study in order to stay on track with the course. This involves, for example, completing exercises from the course material or writing a text using expressions you have learnt in class. You can also use self-study sets on Quizlet to expand your vocabulary.

After successfully completing this course, you will be ready for the Speak Up! Korean pre-intermediate course which fully focuses on speaking.
