Would you like to take your Dutch writing skills to a higher level? This course offered by the University of Groningen Language Centre can help you with that! In this course, you will practise writing a variety of texts, such as emails, reports, research proposals, essays, reviews, summaries, and press releases. You will find answers to questions such as: What is the correct tone? How long should my sentences be? Should I use the word ‘er’ or not? How can AI help me write my text?
The course is entirely online and lasts eight weeks. The course largely consists of doing assignments independently, so you can study when and where you prefer. There are no weekly group lessons, but we do offer four short interactive group sessions with a teacher and a few course participants throughout the course.
Who is this course for?
This course is intended for upper-intermediate speakers of Dutch at around B2 CEFR level. The course is also open to anyone with a higher level.
Reimbursements
This course can not be reimbursed by DUO, the plus course can be reimbursed by DUO.
How is the course structured?
Self-study
This eight-week course consists largely of self-study, for a total of 12 hours. This includes, for example, writing texts and creating a personal vocabulary list. You can also do your weekly assignments with a fellow course participant. During the course, you will receive regular individual feedback on your writing assignments.
Interactive online sessions
During the course, you will have four short interactive online sessions with a teacher and some fellow course participants. The times of the sessions will be decided by mutual agreement, so that it is convenient for everyone to participate.
What will you learn in this course?
This course will teach you, among other things:
- What tools you can use when writing
- How to choose between formal and informal, concrete and abstract, accessible and complex writing styles
- What writing conventions exist in Dutch
- How to expand your productive vocabulary
What will you be able to do after the course?
- Write at B2+ to C1 level
- Write a variety of texts
- Write in a grammatically correct way without spelling mistakes
