Would you like to start learning Spanish? With this Spanish beginners course at the University of Groningen Language Centre, you will learn about the Spanish language and culture in an interactive way. We offer Spanish courses both on location in Groningen and online. Our teaching method for the Spanish beginners course focuses on speaking and understanding the Spanish language. With this method, you will quickly feel at home in this beautiful language and you will automatically expand your grammar knowledge and vocabulary!
Who is this course for?

This course is for beginners of Spanish. During the course, we work towards CEFR level pre-A1. The course is taught in Spanish as much as possible, with explanations provided in Dutch or English depending on the group participants. It is therefore important that you have a good command of English in order to participate in the course.

What will you learn in this course?

The course comprises 12 lessons. One lesson lasts 2 hours in a course on location and 1.5 hours in an online course. During the course, you will learn, among other things:

  • The alphabet and pronunciation
  • Vocabulary
  • The use of por, para, and porque
  • Present tense; regular, and some irregular verbs
How many hours of independent study are required?

To properly keep up with the course, you will have to take into account a total of 30 hours of self-study for this course on location, or 36 hours of self-study for the online course. Self-study mainly comprises grammar exercises, vocabulary development, and listening exercises. You will also be asked to do a reading or writing exercise every now and again.

What will you be able to do after the course?
  • Talk about yourself: where you are from, your age, and your job or what you are studying
  • Hold a conversation about the weather, your hobbies and interests
  • Describe locations
  • Ask or say how much something costs

After successfully completing this course, you will be ready for the follow-up course Spanish pre-A1>A1.

It is important that you buy this version of the book including access to Campus Difusión, as this is where the homework assignments are given.

In addition, we recommend the book below. This book is not mandatory, but it is useful if you want to practise the grammar and vocabulary in more depth. The book focuses on the particular grammatical, lexical, and phonetic aspects of the Spanish language that are more difficult to learn for English speakers.
