Would you like to improve your knowledge of German for study, work or to understand your in-laws better? Then enrol now for this course from the University of Groningen Language Centre!
Who is this course for?

This course is for participants at a pre-intermediate level of German at CEFR level A2/B1. During the course, we work towards level B1. The course is taught in German as much as possible, with explanations provided in English or Dutch when necessary. It is therefore important that you have a good command of English in order to participate in the course.

If you are unsure whether this level is right for you, you can test yourself online using the placement test! Alternatively, make an appointment for the online consultation to get personal advice from our teacher.

What will you learn in this course?

The course consists of 12 two-hour lessons, during which the following topics will be covered:

  • Telling about the history of your hometown
  • Understand familiar German words and quotations
  • Using the modal verbs in the past perfect tense (plusquamperfectum)
  • Future tense
How many hours of independent study are required?

You should expect to spend a total of 30 hours on independent study in order to stay on track with the course.  Each week, you are expected to go through the lesson material, learn and practise the vocabulary, complete the grammar exercises and pay sufficient attention to your listening and reading skills.

What will you be able to do after the course?
  • Understand information and argumentation in media texts
  • Following and understanding conversations between native speakers
  • Giving a presentation and responding to others' presentations

After successfully completing this course, you will be ready for the follow-up course German B1>B1/B2.
