The English B2 > B2/C1 course is intended for those who are at an advanced level of English (B2). This means that you are able to take an active part in discussions in familiar or rather more complex contexts, express familiar ideas rather fluently and are able to follow most news and current affairs programs, and films or series without too much effort. You should also be able to understand the main ideas when reading a complex article or report and write clear, detailed texts related to your interests or area of expertise.
Study load
Twelve lessons of 120 minutes each (including a short break), and approximately 36 hours of independent study.
Office hour
If you are unsure about your level, test yourself online using the placement test! You can also make an appointment for the online English office hour if you would like to receive personal advice. Please feel free to register for the course any time, even if you have not yet visited the office hour.
Course material
There is no book required for this course. Course material will be provided during the lessons.
Brightspace/Google
You will also be using online course material in Brightspace, the online learning environment of the University of Groningen, as well as Google Drive and Google Docs, for which you will need a student UG mail account or a Gmail account.

Maximum number of participants: 15
Attendance certificate
At the end of a course, every participant will receive an attendance certificate on the condition that they have attended 75% of the lessons.
Rosetta Stone
A Rosetta Stone independent study account is a great tool to use alongside the course. You can also use it to keep working on your language skills even after the course has finished. Please note that a Rosetta Stone account is not compulsory for the course and will not be used by the teacher, but it can give your language learning an extra boost!
