Are you going on an exchange to Sweden, and do you want to be able to communicate with your fellow students? Or do you have a holiday home in Sweden, and would you like to be able to understand your Swedish neighbours? This course will give you an introduction to the Swedish language and enable you to get by in Swedish at a basic level.

We run the course in cooperation with the Scandinavian Translation and Information Bureau Netherlands (SVIN). This course takes you to the next level at a faster pace than SVIN’s own courses.

Who is this course for?

This course is for beginners of Swedish. During the course, we work towards CEFR level A1. The course is taught in Swedish as much as possible, with explanations provided in English when necessary. It is therefore important that you have a good command of English in order to participate in the course.

What will you learn on the course?

The course consists of 12 two-hour lessons, during which the following topics will be covered:

  • The alphabet
  • Pronunciation
  • Numbers
  • Word order
  • Present, past, and future tenses and the imperative
How many hours of independent study are required?

You should expect to spend a total of 30 hours on independent study in order to stay on track with the course. This includes learning vocabulary and grammar, doing the exercises in the book and online, watching videos, listening to audio clips, and reading the news.

What will you be able to do after the course?
  • Ask how someone is doing and have a simple conversation.
  • Describe simple aspects of everyday life.
  • Produce simple sentences about where you live, your work, and your interests.
  • Understand titles and summaries in newspapers.

After successfully completing this course, you will be ready for the follow-up course Swedish A1>A2!

The atmosphere during the lessons was very fun and pleasant, making mistakes did not feel uncomfortable at all. Also, the teacher made the topics we covered very interesting!
