In this follow-up course Italian for beginners of the University of Groningen Language Centre your grasp of the Italian language will continue to increase. It will become easier for you to make small talk and you are expanding your vocabulary and your knowledge of grammar. By now, you will also begin to understand the jokes our enthusiastic Italian teacher makes and maybe even laugh about them! What more could you want?
Who is this course for?
This course is for beginners of Italian at CEFR level A1. During the course, we work towards pre-intermediate level A2. The course is taught in Italian as much as possible,with explanations provided in Dutch or English depending on the group participants. It is therefore important that you have a good command of English in order to participate in the course. In this course, you will be taught by both a teacher and a classroom assistant. The maximum group size is 20 participants.

What will you learn in this course?
The course comprises 12 lessons of two contact hours, and during the course you will learn, among other things:
- Complex sentences
- The tenses present perfect, imperfect, future conditional, and imperative
- The comparative and superlative degrees of adjectives
- More vocabulary and more interaction in Italian
How many hours of independent study are required?
You should expect to spend a total of 30 hours on independent study in order to stay on track with the course. This involves, for example, doing writing assignments and grammar and vocabulary exercises.
What will you be able to do after the course?
- Hold simple conversations about familiar topics, for example in the supermarket or a shop.
- Answer simple questions about family, work, and hobbies.
- Understand newspaper articles and listen to the radio.
- You will be able to talk about yourself more elaborately: about your background, your plans for the future, and past events.
After successfully completing this course, you will be ready for the follow-up course Italian A2>A2/B1. You could also choose the Speak Up! Italian pre-intermediate course, which focuses entirely on speaking.
